Make Cyber Security Your New Year’s Resolution

Join Wilby Insurance Brokers and our guest speakers to learn more about the key cyber security issues facing businesses and some simple steps you can take to protect your business.

We have lined up three excellent speakers who will provide invaluable advice to help you make cyber security your New Year’s resolution.

Michael Lea-Smith, Fraud Education Specialist, CYBG

With over 13 years counter fraud experience, specialising in security document verification and organisation fraud contagion I now work to highlight the risks we all face to the modern day threat that is fraud. With a clear understanding of the hidden industry that is fraud and cyber enabled threats, its my job to remove the natural human tendency to trust, and replace it with a carefully considered, logical, and risk adverse approach when it comes to you, your money, and your data.

The session focuses on threat avoidance covering off at high level the main tactics and strategies used by criminals to attack individuals and business for financial gain. During the session we will talk through some

  • Real world case studies
  • Examine the exploits of a highly success fraudster
  • Explore principles of threat avoidance,
  • As we well as short demonstration highlighting the importance of password management and incident response.

Stuart Upton, System & Process Director, PIB Risk Management

Stuart Upton has spent the last 15 years working within the Commercial Insurance and Risk Management sector, with a particular focus on business continuity, system process and information risk, most recently leading the team responsible for developing and deploying the PIB Group’s online risk management tool.  Prior to this he spent a number of years working within the UK and Europe on IT business change and systems projects.

Stuart will explain why businesses should treat cyber risk like any other business risk such as fire risks. He will look at:

  • How to identify potential cyber risks
  • Processes and policies you can put in place to reduce risk
  • Having an a action plan in place if you’re the victim of a cyber incident

Tom Bennett, Cyber Security Incident Responder, CFC Underwriting Ltd

As a Cyber Incident Specialist, Tom uses digital forensics and intelligence analysis to help CFC’s clients survive a cyber attack. He used to work in Cyber Crime Special Operations with a Regional Organised Crime Unit.

Tom will be talking about modern cyber defence, attacks, and the underground economy that fuels them.
